NATIONAL GALLERY OF DENMARK
14 July – 28 October 2012
Henri Matisse (1869-1954) is hailed as one of the great twentieth-century masters for his powerful imagery and masterly rendering of colour and shape. The exhibition at Denmark’s national gallery traces Matisse’s explorative art, in which he would constantly challenge his own artistic vernacular in endless variations of his motifs.
The exhibition spans Matisse’s formative periods, from the turn of the century, when his investigative method was first honed, until the late 1940s, by which time he had reached his artistic zenith.
